The Garcia family came to us looking to build a new home for their family and wanted to be involved in the design process. Together, with one of our preferred kitchen showrooms, the family designed a timeless farmhouse-inspired home in North Yarmouth. While all aspects of the home are noteworthy, the kitchen is our personal favorite area of the home.
Tasteful and Practical
Entering the home, guests are drawn to the kitchen that sits just beyond the entry way. The deep brown walnut flooring and heaps of natural light create a bright atmosphere that invites the homeowners and guests in.
The open concept layout is loved by many of our clients because it makes the room feel spacious and inviting. Minimizing division between the kitchen and dining area encourages socialization and makes entertaining a breeze. The space achieves both functionality and formality, ideal for anything from cooking a family dinner or hosting a game night.
Red oak base cabinets painted in Benjamin Moore Hale Navy differentiate this space from the classic, white farmhouse kitchen. Marrara quartz countertops and white upper cabinets help to balance out the darker elements, keeping it bright and airy. Furniture style legs elevate the look of the island. The homeowner added pops of red with Le Creuset cookware pieces in Cerise to coordinate with the red knobs on their Wolfe range.
Layering in the Details
A farmhouse sink is essential in this style kitchen, accompanied by an arabesque marble mosaic backsplash. The polished finish of the tile adds an eye-catching glimmer to the space, helping reflect light around the room. The grain of the wood on the lower cabinets peeks through adding subtle texture.
Finishes of stainless steel, brass, and black are all incorporated throughout the kitchen. It may seem wrong to mix different metal finishes, but it gives the space a layered and timeless appearance.
The Pantry: Functional and Formal
A vintage-inspired, douglas fir door welcomes you at the entrance of the spacious pantry. The glass lites of the door expose the space, meaning the pantry design and details were just as important as the kitchen’s. The same finishes and cabinetry were used throughout. Nickel gap gives the walls a subtle texture behind the open shelving. A butcher block counter ties together the room effortlessly.
